Operation Colossus sees road safety targeted in Millom

Operation Colossus targeting road safety in hotspot areas continues as officers target activity in Millom. Officers from Copeland Neighbourhood Policing team were stopping vehicles on Friday 10 April in the area carrying out checks on vehicles as well as providing road safety advice to drivers. During the operation officers: Arrested two for theft following a traffic stop A driver was given a traffic offence report for no MOT Uplifted a vehicle under section 19 pace after stolen items were located Uplifted a vehicle for no tax Issued a driver with a traffic offence report (TOR) for contravening a red light Stopped two people and a vehicle under section 1 pace Sergeant Lindsay Stuart from the Copeland Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Road safety is an issue that has been highlighted as an issue important to our communities in Millom. “We continue to encourage anyone with concerns about anti-social driving or someone driving dangerously on our roads to report it.” Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, David Allen, said: “Dangerous and anti-social driving is one of the key issues raised with me by residents so I’m pleased to see that the Police continue to tackle these concerns pro-actively. “Operation Colossus is a snapshot of what Police do year-round to keep our roads safe and the message is clear: if you drive dangerously on Cumbria’s roads or our public spaces, you will be caught and you will face the consequences. “As we head into summer, our roads will be getting busier so I would urge the public to drive safely and ensure that their vehicle is road legal. Let’s work together to protect Cumbria’s safety.” Operation Colossus was launched after concerns were raised by communities of anti-social driving across Cumbria.
